This is a fully differentiated lesson looking at developing and improving creative writing for the English language paper one exam. The lesson looks at a key extract from the book, “Boy” by Roald Dahl and helps learners to analyse the extract in relation to question two. The lesson also includes helpful advice on how to develop their creative writing and to embed key language techniques. There is a 200-word writing challenge that also has a model response to help learners get started. All of my lessons have been tried and tested with my own groups. This is a fully differentiated lesson looking at improving learners’ ability at creative writing using the theme of stealing as a stimulus. The lesson helps learners understand the importance of structure in creative writing and how to use this in their writing. The lesson uses a matching up activity and a model response to help learners understand how important structure is. Additionally, the lesson helps to consolidate their understanding of advanced punctuation. This lesson works well as a standalone lesson for creative writing or in teaching English language paper one. All of my lessons have been tried and tested with my own groups. The lesson looks at the contextual factors that influenced crime and punishment and how it may be applied to help understand the play. The lesson focuses on the character of Iago and his development throughout the play and his ability to manipulate Roderigo to do his bidding. The lesson helps learners to understand some of the key concepts within the play, analyse key extracts of act five, and apply their understanding to an exam-style question.
